Participating in a Rigdzin Düpa practice intensive—drupchö—during the Tibetan New Year (Losar) period is the best and fastest way to become familiar with and deepen your practice of this profound sadhana!
All practice sessions will be held and guided by Rigpa Senior Practice Holders and short evocative teachings will be shared to inspire our practice.
Rigdzin Düpa is a sadhana that focuses on the root of all blessings: Guru Rinpoche. It is one of the most important and profound practices of the Longchen Nyingtik tradition that we follow in Rigpa and has the power to awaken, in our experience, the view of the natural state of Dzogpachenpo—the nature of mind. It is also considered to be a profound long-life practice.
The Tibetan New Year (Losar) period is traditionally a very important time for practice in all Tibetan Monasteries. Holding annual drupchös during this period in Lerab Ling was very much initiated by Sogyal Rinpoche, and the Lerab Ling practice team does its utmost to continue this annual tradition of group Vajrayana practice for the benefit of the whole sangha and all beings.
It is said that several days participating in a drupchö or drupchen can yield the same results as years of solitary retreat, and great contemporary masters such as Kyabjé Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche have made a point of encouraging and reviving the practice of drupchen, because of its power of transformation.
WHO THIS EVENT IS FOR
Since a Rigdzin Düpa drupchö is a way for all of us to deepen our practice of guru yoga, it is recommended for established Ngöndro students and Dzogchen Mandala students who have already received a Rigdzin Düpa or Guru Rinpoche empowerment.
WHAT ARE THE SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS TO JOIN?
Drupchös are most suited for students that:
Have a firm grounding in the practice of ngöndro, which includes having received all the ngöndro teachings, up to and including guru yoga,
Have started their ngöndro accumulations;
Have already received some instructions for sadhana practice, including a basic understanding of the key principles of the Vajrayana. This means you have either followed:
Rigpa's study and practice programme of the Vajrayana cycle from the Three-year retreat, Home Retreat or Vajrayana online retreats streamed from Lerab Ling,
Or you received these instructions during previous drupchens with Orgyen Tobgyal Rinpoche,
Or you are a student from a sangha other than Rigpa and have received these instructions from a qualified Vajrayana teacher.
To participate in this drupchö, a Rigdzin Düpa or a Guru Rinpoche empowerment is absolutely required.
PREPARING YOURSELF FOR THIS EVENT
You can support your practice by studying the Kyerim section of A Guide to Vajrayana Practice for the Rigpa Sangha which is available at ZAM. This will help make your participation as meaningful as possible.
If you have a Rigdzin Düpa empowerment, you could study the commentaries found in this publication: Jigme Lingpa, Patrul Rinpoche, Khenpo Chemchok, and Jamgon Kongtrul Lodro Taye, The Gathering of Vidyadharas: Text and Commentaries on the Rigdzin Düpa, Translated by Gyurme Avertin (Boulder: Snow Lion, 2017).

Practising Riwo Sangchö—a ritual of offering incense smoke—and reciting lungta prayers intently, right after the Tibetan New Year (Losar) is of immense benefit for our spiritual path.
As we enter the New Year, this practice based on Guru Rinpoche, is an opportunity to gather the accumulations of merit and wisdom, purify our obscurations, and, in particular, pacify any obstacles and factors that prevent the accomplishment of the Dharma and awakening in the present lifetime.
Moreover, through the practices of lungta (windhorse), we raise our inner subtle wind-energies, increase our life-span, merit and prosperity, and create the best circumstances for good health, peace and happiness in our lives. The ultimate point of such practice is to awaken the clarity aspect of our minds, to bring us into closer contact with our own rigpa.
The powerful practice of Sollo Chenmo—a practice of invocation and offering to Gesar—will also be recited once a day.
In brief, there is no better way to enter into the New Year auspiciously!
All practice sessions will be held and guided by Rigpa Senior Practice Holders and each year a new collection of short evocative teachings are shared to inspire our practice.
The Tibetan New Year (Losar) period is traditionally a very important time for practice in all Tibetan Monasteries. Holding annual practice intensives and drupchös during this period in Lerab Ling was very much initiated by Sogyal Rinpoche, and the Lerab Ling practice team does its utmost to continue this annual tradition of group Vajrayana practice for the benefit of the whole sangha and all beings.
In particular, during the first month of the Tibetan calendar (this year 18 Feb.-18 Mar.), the Holy month of Bumjur Dawa, the effects of positive actions is said to be multiplied 100,000 times. Therefore practice is emphasized during this period.
WHO THIS EVENT IS FOR
The Riwo Sangchö intensive is recommended for Ngöndro students and Dzogchen Mandala students who have already received a Guru Rinpoche empowerment. It is a great opportunity for those new to the practice or those already familiar to deeply connect with and accomplish one of Rigpa’s daily sadhana practices.

Tendrel Nyesel is famed as a practice dedicated specifically to averting the inauspiciousness of the times and is said to be one of the most powerful practices for bringing peace and stability in the world. The Rigpa community is one of very few sanghas who uphold the lineage of this practice. We hold a special responsibility to keep the lineage of this practice alive!
Participating in a Tendrel Nyesel practice intensive—drupchö—during the Tibetan New Year (Losar) period, is the best and fastest way to become familiar with or deepen your practice of this profound sadhana!
With global events hanging in the balance, this powerful practice is considered by many lamas to be particularly timely and of very great significance. Through seven days of intensive practice together, we can direct the power of this practice to the current world situation, for the success of all Rigpa’s projects and for the many individual prayer requests offered during this drupchö.
The empowerment of Tendrel Nyesel was recently given by Shechen Rabjam Rinpoche in Lerab Ling (November 2024) and Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche (December 2025). This enables those who received the empowerment to fully participate in the practice.
All practice sessions will be held and guided by Rigpa Senior Practice Holders and each year an updated collection of short evocative teachings are shared to inspire our practice.
Highlights will include
Thursday 26 February: Guru Rinpoche day & Tertön Sogyal's anniversary
Tuesday 3 March: Chotrul Düchen (one of the four major annual Buddhist festivals which occurs on the 15th day of the first month of the Tibetan calendar. The first fifteen days of the year celebrate the fifteen days on which, in order to increase the merit and the devotion of future disciples, Buddha displayed a different miracle.)
Wednesday 4 March: Siddhis day
Thursday 5 March: Jinsek (Fire Ceremony)

The Sangha Resident Programme is for Rigpa sangha members (retired or working) to come and stay in Lerab Ling for a month or up to a year or even longer, take a break from city/village life, immerse yourself in a spiritual environment and simply be part of the spiritual community - living and practising together, joining (or creating!) community activities and supporting Lerab Ling through service.
You will:
change your environment for a while
be part of the spiritual community
have a carer/spiritual friend to check in with about your study and practice
participate in a range of different group practices
have the option to take vows or commitments during your time here
help with simple tasks around Lerab Ling (approximately 1 hour/day)
have time to enjoy the relaxing, calm surroundings and blessed environment
Retired or working sangha members are welcome!
WORKING FROM A DISTANCE IN LERAB LING
Many people have discovered the flexibility of working online or at a distance. In many cases it will be possible to continue your working life (self employed or working for a company) while staying in Lerab Ling as part of the Sangha Resident Programme. Check with us if your work can be continued while you are in Lerab Ling.
HOW IS LIVING IN THE COMMUNITY DIFFERENT FROM BEING THERE FOR TEACHING OR PRACTICE RETREATS?
With a mixture of retired, working, monastic and lay members in the community, each person has their own activity and practice focus, and the community comes together for practices and occasional social activities. Each person is independent, and community members support each other whenever needed, with anything from running errands for others, driving someone to the doctor, and bringing meals if someone is unwell, to solving problems with personal computers. As a community, we aim to be aware of how we can help others, and to ask others for help when we need it ourselves: quite simply, this is an expression of loving kindness and compassion.
It’s important to be aware that the terrain in Lerab Ling can be difficult and the weather is unpredictable, especially with snow and ice in winter.
Several services that are available during major retreats aren't available off-season, such as onsite transport. Each person is responsible for their own laundry and cleaning their accommodation (including shared bathrooms).
HOW TO REQUEST TO JOIN THE SANGHA RESIDENT PROGRAMME
Duration: It is possible to join from 1 month - 1 year with an option to extend. Request: Fill-in the request form below then one of the team will get back to you to clarify and confirm details. For requests to stay more than one month, one of the Lerab Ling team will arrange a call with you to discuss the details of your stay.
If you have a question or want to know more please email us: Cette adresse e-mail est protégée contre les robots spammeurs. Vous devez activer le JavaScript pour la visualiser.
*Note: Currently it is possible for sangha to join this programme for 1 month - 1 year with the option to extend. In summer months most accommodation is needed for the annual summer retreats.
In the next stage of the Sangha Resident Programme we hope to offer the option for sangha members to stay for years or even for the rest of their life. Before we can do that, we need to research the facilities and support required to properly meet the needs of long term residents and ageing sangha members living in Lerab Ling.
SPECIAL RATES FOR SANGHA RESIDENT PROGRAMME
Different types of accommodation are available depending on the season, ranging from a simple wooden cabin in the forest to a retreat room or studio.
