Meet Our Monastic Community

The spiritual heart of Lerab Ling is the community of monastic practitioners who observe a routine of prayer and meditation according to the ancient Nyingma lineage of Tibetan Buddhism.

Our dedicated monks and nuns received ordination from some of the most revered lamas in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, including His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Trulshik Rinpoche, and Khenchen Pema Sherab Rinpoche. With great commitment, they carry out a wide range of spiritual activities both here at Lerab Ling and at other Rigpa centres around the world.

Their work includes:

  • Supporting Practices: Performing rituals for the sick and deceased.
  • Caring for Visiting Teachers: Providing support and hospitality.
  • Translating Dharma Texts: Oral and written translation of important teachings into English or French.
  • Crafting Sacred Objects: Creating tsa-tsas (small statues or small stupas), filling statues, making takdrol (wrapped sacred texts which can be placed on a deceased person’s body after death) and making amulets for protection, preparing texts with mantra (sacred syllables) to fill statues and tsa-tsas.
  • Maintaining Rituals: Leading various rituals throughout the year, including during drupchös and drupchens (extended group practice events).
  • Caring for Shrines: Looking after the sacred shrines at Lerab Ling.

In the time of the Buddha, monks and nuns relied on the generosity of laypeople for their sustenance, and this tradition continues today. Our monastic community depends entirely on the support and kindness of others. If you would like to contribute to their wellbeing, you can make a donation here. Every gift is deeply appreciated.

In keeping with tradition, our monastics offer prayers of dedication for their sponsors. Your name will be included in their heartfelt practice as a token of gratitude for your support.
