Teachings and Empowerments -

With Shechen Rabjam Rinpoche.

During this event, Shechen Rabjam Rinpoche will teach on Patrul Rinpoche’s famous poem 'The Heart Treasure of the Enlightened Ones' and bestow the empowerments of Dukngal Rangdrol, Tendrel Nyesel and Yang Nying Pudri.

Due to the nature of these teachings and transmissions, which belong to the path of Vajrayana and Dzogchen, attending this event will only be relevant to the path of Buddhist students who have:

  • already formally entered the Mahayana Buddhist path by taking Refuge and Bodhisattva vows;
  • a solid foundation and experience of the principles and practices of the Mahayana;
  • a firm grounding in the practice of Ngöndro, which includes having received all the Ngöndro teachings, up to and including guru yoga as well as having started their accumulations;
  • carefully reflected whether they want to enter the Vajrayana path and are aware of its specific commitments (for example by having followed the ‘Is Vajrayana for Me’ a Rigpa Online event offered in December 2018).

Please note - If you are not a Rigpa Ngöndro or Dzogchen Mandala student and wish to participate in this event, please fill out this request form.

A Word about Vajrayana – The decision to receive empowerment and practise the Vajrayana should be mature and informed, cognizant of the special conditions of the path and the connections that are made, especially with the vajra master and vajra brothers and sisters. According to the Vajrayana texts, this is a decision that should follow a long period of careful reflection and analysis, and once taken, cannot be reversed.

 About the text

'The Heart Treasure of the Enlightened Ones' is an outstanding text by one of the most illustrious Tibetan teachers of the nineteenth century, Patrul Rinpoche. It is a concise explanation of the principal practices of the Buddhist path and includes profound Dzogchen instructions. Shechen Rabjam Rinpoche will comment on this text, in the same vein as his root master Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche has.

About the Empowerments

Dukngal Rangdrol (Natural Liberation of Suffering) is part of the Longchen Nyingtik cycle of teachings and sadhanas and has Chenrézik (Skt. Avalokiteshvara) as its central deity. It is the secret lama practice from this cycle and is regularly practised by the Rigpa sangha, especially to help the deceased. Chenrézik is said to be the essence of the speech of all the buddhas and the incarnation of their compassion. The Heart Treasure of the Enlightened Ones is closely linked to the practice of this deity.

Tendrel Nyesel (Removing Inauspicious Circumstances) is a terma revealed by Tertön Sogyal and the most widely practised sadhana of the Rigpa sangha. It is a wonderful opportunity for Rigpa Vajrayana students to receive this transmission from the heart-son of Kyabjé Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, as well as an opportunity to be empowered to practise this sadhana if you are at that stage of the path.

Yang Nying Pudri (Razor of the Innermost Essence) is a terma related to Vajrakilaya revealed by Tertön Sogyal, and the main yidam practice of the Rigpa sangha. Receiving this empowerment will authorise you to practise the Yang Nying Pudri sadhana and other Vajrakilaya practices.
