BACKGROUND
La Source SARL is a commercial entity set up in 1999 by Rigpa Europe (the not-for-profit organisation that founded Lerab Ling in 1991) to provide meals and accommodation for people taking part in programmes at the Lerab Ling Buddhist Centre (www.lerabling.org). It has a seasonal activity, as a large number of students come in the summer (between 200 and 400 people) but also operates in the low season as many people come for personal retreats during the year and Lerab Ling has a resident community of around 70 people.
La Source runs a commercial kitchen aimed at producing a balanced and creative vegetarian cuisine offering attractive menus to bring the community together and satisfy the demands of outside customers coming for stays, events or retreats of any length.
Over the years, La Source has built up an exceptional network of infrastructure and accommodation totalling more than 220 beds, divided between wooden buildings (chalets, cabins, forest rooms) and terracotta block buildings (retreat rooms and studios), mainly thanks to a sponsorship programme, which allows students to reserve accommodation on site in advance for a period of between 3 and 25 years. This is a key initiative in the development of Lerab Ling, as it has enabled thousands of students to stay, study and practise at Lerab Ling over the last few years.
La Source has a retail shop (Windhorse Boutique) and a seasonal café (Windhorse Café). More recently, La Source took over some of Zam's commercial activities after it was dissolved and revitalised its e-commerce site (www.Zamstore.com).
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Executive Chairman is responsible for representing the company in dealings with third parties and may carry out all acts of management in the company's interests.
The main responsibilities of the Executive Chairman are as follows:
- To accompany the development of The Source in order to best meet the needs and expectations of its clientele: the general public, the sangha (international community of students) of Rigpa and the community of Lerab Ling.
- Develop and support initiatives and programmes that enable students to take up long-term residence at Lerab Ling (sponsorship programme and long-term resident programme) or to undertake long-term retreats.
- Coordinates and/or supports the managers of La Source's main departments: collective kitchen; accommodation (including laundry and registration); boutique and Zam.
The Manager relies on:
- Shared services with Rigpa Europe and the Rigpa Lerab Ling Congregation: technical services (site technical management, communications department) and administrative services (human resources department and accounts department);
- Major decision-making committees on which the three entities are represented: coordination team; finance committee, supervisory group for building & refurbishing; accommodation group, etc.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- The person we're looking for is passionate about hotels, restaurants and management.
- Experience of business management is a plus.
- Fluency in French and English is essential.
- Being a Rigpa student is a plus.
- Flexibility, open-mindedness and enthusiasm are appreciated.
